Allegheny National Forest signWhen you participate, it matters!  Please join in the AFA’s efforts to advocate for sustainable forest management on the Allegheny National Forest and other public forest lands.

We work hard to keep up with legislation and agency policy announcements.  When issues are identified that threaten public land health, management, or use, or threaten community economic stability, we respond, researching and writing comment letters that are available for you to base your own comments on.  Help is always welcome in this time-consuming effort.  Monitoring, research, even drafting comments are all needed.  If you don’t have time, but want to assist financially,  we welcome that too!

See below for the categories of advocacy opportunities you can participate in.  Please write to your legislators and comment on ANF projects, state and federal agency proposals, and proposed legislation.  Your voice matters, and together we can make our voices heard!

ANF Project Comments:  You can find the current Schedule of Proposed Actions (SOPA) for all projects on the Allegheny National Forest Website.  This is updated quarterly, and we publish projects of concern in our bi-monthly newsletter.  Not sure what makes for a good project comment?  See our “Commenting on ANF Projects” guide, developed cooperatively with the ANF staff.

State and Federal Agency Rule change proposals:  We are seeing a lot of actions being proposed that would have devastating and permanent impacts on how our Nation’s forests are managed, forest health, and the stability and sustainability of our communities.  You will find them listed below with links to more details:
