Nation wide, National Forests and Grasslands provide Americans with 193 million spectacular acres of nature to enjoy. These lands are celebrated in July during National Forest Week.
The Allegheny National Forest has 513,000+ acres that offer:
- Scenic byways to drive
- Trails to hike, bike, horseback, ride ATV or snowmobile, snowshoe or cross country ski
- Wild and scenic rivers to float
- Streams to fish
- Game to hunt
- Campgrounds in which to pitch our tents
- Boulders to climb
- Dark skies for start gazing
- Plants, wildlife and spectacular scenery to photograph
- And much more!
Managed by the USDA Forest Service, our National Forests and Grasslands host more than 170 million visits each year. These lands are the foundation of America’s outdoor recreation heritage and sustain our rural way of life. They provide water to millions of Americans in thousands of communities, clean our air, store carbon, and provide timber, minerals, oil and gas and other resources for industry and communities.
Join us in celebrating the Allegheny National Forest, and all of America’s national forests, by accepting what they have to offer and taking a role (even a small one) in maintaining them. Here are some ideas:
- Share photos of your adventures on the ANF through social media
- Create a photo book of your favorite images from your adventures
- Do a short live stream video on social media during your adventure
- Tag @AlleghenyForestAlliance and use the hashtags #AlleghenyNationalForest and #AlleghenyForestAlliance
- Take your family on a forest scavenger hunt
- Participate in an organized clean up event on the ANF, or just pick up trash on your own
- Participate in an organized trail development or maintenance project
- Use iMap Invasives to report non-native invasive species you spot
- If you are an artist or photographer, plan a day (or longer) recording or interpreting what inspires you on the ANF
- Plan a small group hike, bike, ride or float on ANF
