Forest Health

One of the AFA’s two primary goals is Forest Health.  Without a healthy, sustainably managed forest on the ANF, our wildlife and streams cannot be healthy, nor can our communities be stable.

We encourage you to learn more about current forest health, signs of a healthy forest, pests and diseases that are attacking our forests, non-native invasive plants that crowd out native species, how sustainable forestry practices aid forest health, and how you can help.

The resources below will get you started, but don’t stop here!  Talk to local foresters about sustainable forestry, participate in AFA forest health events, help prevent the import and spread of non-native plants and insects, and do your own research.

Glossy Buckthorn – Watch here for details on the Glossy Buckthorn Treatment Project being planned and how you can help control the spread of this invasive by reporting its presence.
