Advocacy Efforts

The Allegheny Forest Alliance’s advocacy efforts are focused on forest health, multiple-use management of the ANF, and funding in lieu of taxes for ANF host communities and schools.

This work takes the form of ANF project and agency policy comment letters, communications with our Congress Members regarding proposed legislation and issues that need addressed on our national forests, proposals for legislation or agency policy, and more.

Here are some recent advocacy actions the AFA has taken:

  • Opposed USDA Old-Growth Amendment Plan.
  • Opposed USFS Rule to allow Carbon Capture and Storage beneath our national forests.
  • Opposed SEC rule to allow Natural Asset Companies to trade on the New York Stock Exchange.
  • Urged Congressman Glenn Thompson and Senators John Fetterman and Dave McCormick to work to secure reauthorization of the Secure Rural Schools funding legislation.
  • Submitted a paper to Agriculture Secretary nominee Brooke Rollins outlining the need for improved staffing on our national forests and solutions to achieve this.
